I wanted a new coffee grinder to replace my old Mr. Coffee burr grinder I bought for $25 12 years ago. I wanted to get more uniformity in the grind than I could get with my old grinder but reviews for all the electric grinders I looked at were mixed. So I took a chance on this manual grinder and ordered it through Amazon. It arrived yesterday and I ground my first beans this morning. My first impression is that it's a very simple but very sturdy coffee grinder. I can see how it will last the 10 years it's guaranteed for. And it looks great on my counter! Manually grinding coffee beans takes more time than with an electric grinder but not a lot longer - about 2-3 minutes for enough beans to brew two mugs of coffee. Still I'll keep my old grinder on standby in case I need it to quickly make a couple of pots of coffee for guests.PROS: It produces a very uniform grind - not a mixture of large and small chunks of ground beans. The coffee I brewed with the ground beans from this grinder was delicious, better than I'd been getting with my old grinder. I'm looking forward to my coffee tomorrow morning. Static electricity didn't seem to be a problem for me. It's small enough to fit on my kitchen counter without taking up a lot of space.CONS: The bin to drop the whole beans in is small compared to my electric grinder and I spilled a few beans trying to drop them into the bin from my coffee scoop. I think I'll get better on this task with time. A knurled nut is used to get the kind of grind you want but there are no indicators which direction to turn it to get a finer or coarser grind. I tried to approximate a middle point between the two to get a correct grind for my coffee maker. The grind turned out a little finer that I wanted and so I'll need to experiment a bit to find the right location on the nut.The grinder arrives with no instructions and I guess none are needed because it's a very simple (but elegant) grinder.I'll update my review after I use this grinder for a month or so if my opinion about it changes dramatically one way or the other. I'm planning to use it eventually to make french press and espresso coffees; so experience with either of those could change my view one way or the other.UPDATE: I've used this coffee grinder for a couple of weeks now and still like it very much. Two things I've noticed about it is that the bin for the whole beans holds about 3 tablespoons of beans and it takes me about two minutes to grind that amount. Another is the knurled nut that determines the fineness/coarseness of the grind tends to drift a bit as I grind the beans. I applied a small mark with indelible ink on the nut so that I know when the nut has moved to one side or the other.

I've owned this hand grinder for years and in fact used it this morning. I also own and use a large Italian Macap commercial burr grinder, a Braun electric burr grinder. These various grinders all replaced the common cheap spice mill type coffee grinder with the blade, which I tossed out years ago. I am an admitted coffee and espresso geek. This grinder is my favorite to use on a daily basis due to simplicity.Pros: No cord, consistent grind, easy to use. This Zassenhaus model is well made and has held up to about 14 years of use so far. I use it primarily to grind for press pot coffee. The adjustment is continuous, not stepped, so you can dial in exactly what grind size you want. I actually prefer to use this over electric models for convenience; no cords, no motor noise, no static charges to make the ground coffee fly across the counter when opening the unit. It is simple to empty the small tray right into the press pot. I make the least mess in the kitchen with this grinder (which certainly keeps peace in the family). Plus your forearm muscles stay strong!Cons: None for me.Sometimes the old tried and true methods beat newer technology.

The coffee mill was well constructed and grinds coffee without too much effort. It has a 25 year warranty on the grinding mechanism. The best manual grinder I have used. I would purchase it again.
